| Maserati Quattroporte |
The Maserati Quattroporte Automatic goes on sale in the UK today and makes its on the road debut among supermodels and celebrities, as they all gather in London to attend the numerous shows and events of London Fashion Week.
Maserati steps out as the UK capital plays host to over 50 trend setting designers showing their Autumn/Winter collections and teams up with leading model agency ICM. The on-going collaboration sees the brand new Maserati Quattroporte Automatic transporting queens of the catwalk.
Among them are supermodel turned racing driver Jodie Kidd, reporting for GMTV from the fashion shows; Erin O'Connor, recently appointed Vice-President of the British Fashion Council and the ultra glamorous Tatiana Oussova.
Andrea Antonnicola, Managing Director of Maserati GB Ltd said: This is an extremely important year for Maserati, with the launch of two new models, the Quattroporte Automatic and the new Maserati Coupe which will be unveiled at the Geneva Show in March. Rising female consumer power is changing the way companies design, make and market their products, and we firmly believe that Maserati's current product line-up will offer the best combination in terms of style, exclusivity and elegance in today's automotive scenario.
Women have always played an important role in the history of Maserati: from Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman to race in F1 in the 50s with a Maserati 250F, to Vicki Butler-Henderson, the first woman to win a race in a Maserati (at Silverstone in 2004) to supermodel turned racing driver Jodie Kidd, the face of Maserati in the UK since 2004. |
| Maserati's market success continues in 2006 |
The success achieved in all major markets by Maserati in 2005 continues in the first months of 2006. After the 5,659 Maseratis delivered worldwide last year for a global sales growth of 22.8%, in January and February of 2006 Maserati registered a further increase in worldwide sales. The steady increase in sales comes as the natural confirmation of the work started in what today seems the prehistoric 1998, when only 518 units were delivered.
In North America, Maserati's largest market in the world accounting for about 37% of the overall volumes, sales nearly doubled over the twelve months of 2005. In Europe, Italy retains its recently acquired leadership position as Maserati's largest market, followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and France.
Maserati is today a commercial reality in 57 countries in five continents with an overall network of 281 dealerships, an impressive further growth if one compares these figures with the reality of 1998, when Maserati was present in only 17 markets, through 142 dealerships.
THE CORE OF THE GROWTH: MASERATI QUATTROPORTE
The success of the Maserati Quattroporte in terms of sales is reflected in the quantity of international awards the four-door sedan has won since its introduction, two years ago. From the day of its launch, the Maserati Quattroporte has been recognised by 26 international juries with prestigious awards bestowed by clients, readers and journalists from Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Japan and the United States. This global success is continuing just as strongly in 2006: in the first month of the year, five European magazines have awarded the Maserati Quattroporte their Best Cars recognition in Maserati's top European markets: Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland and Holland.
The Maserati Quattroporte not only accounts for a significant share of Maserati's commercial success but has also opened up a whole new segment for Maserati. Of the 5,659 Maseratis delivered worldwide in 2005, 3,591 were Quattroportes, with its perfect balance of elegance and sportiness combined with state-of-the-art technology and distinctive Maserati style that is most appealing to an ever growing community of dynamic business people and opinion shapers that were not part of the Maserati family before.
The Maserati Quattroporte family has grown today to include two new models - the Maserati Quattroporte Executive GT and the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT, both of them on display in Geneva - that further emphasise the two souls of what has been defined the best handling super sedan on the planet.
The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT is the car for those appreciating the enthusiastic feeling of engaged driving. The performance of the F1-inspired, 6-speed transmission has been increased for unmatched responsiveness and control: the Sport button now allows the driver to significantly cut gear change times up to 35% faster, thanks to enhanced software in the electro-hydraulic transmission system's CPU. At high speeds, the 4.2 litre 400 HP V8 Maserati front-mid-engine growls an even more sonorous basso thanks to a specially tuned exhaust system. Sculptured 20 wheels communicate the car's great sporting ability and feature specially produced tyres with a pressure monitoring system. The high performance Brembo braking system now features metal weave tubing and cross-drilled discs with titanium-coloured callipers.
The Maserati Quattroporte Executive GT embodies the other soul of the Maserati Quattroporte, the sedan for comfortable long distance travelling that sets the Maserati Quattroporte apart from any other luxury sedan. Great attention has thus been dedicated to the comfort of the interior and the exclusive finish. The cabin boasts Alcantara suede for the roof lining, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with wood inserts and a comfort equipment - combining heating, ventilation and massage for the front seats. Rear seat passengers are treated to a separate climate control zone with control panel, retractable wood rear tables and retractable screens on the windows for extra privacy.
Stunning beauty of forms and shapes combined with advanced technological solutions, this is Maserati. All Maserati Quattroportes share with the rest of the Maserati current range the front-mid-engine Transaxle drive system with robotised shifting, in which the gearbox is positioned at the rear of the car in a single unit with the differential for an optimum weight distribution between the front and rear axle (53% and 47%) that make possible enhanced traction and acceleration for a more stable and balanced performance in all conditions. And it is worthwhile to remember that Maserati is the only make in the world today to offer the Transaxle solution on its entire line-up.

| Team Maserati wins |
Thanks to a stunning performance by Jack Kidd, Jonathan Ingram and Andrew Foreman, Team Maserati won the first International Polo on Snow Challenge which took place in Klosters, Switzerland last weekend. They beat Team Prodigal 7 to 5 in the final.
First runner up Team Prodigal featured the Hon. Daniel Waechter, Director of Kloster Tourism, who together with Jack Kidd organised the event said: The village of Klosters uniquely combines sports, natural charm and style. | The Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europe 2006 |
Johnny Herbert was the guest of honour at the London launch of the Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europe 2006.
The launch took place at HR Owen Sports Cars in London, in front of 200 selected guests, who were able to admire the Maserati Trofeo GranSport which was raced at Silverstone during the F1 Grand Prix Weekend by Johnny Herbert and supermodel Jodie Kidd. The Audemars Piguet Dual Time Millenary Maserati watches, which were designed to celebrate Maserati 90 years of history and the collaboration between the two companies on the racing front, were also on display.
Andrea Antonnicola, Managing Director of Maserati GB Ltd, commented The Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europe is a fantastic race series which takes place on Europe's most famous circuits. It's a great opportunity to compete at international level, in a glamorous and extremely well organised setting, where the drivers and their sponsors can enjoy the exclusive Maserati hospitality.
Johnny Herbert, who joined Maserati in 2004 when the company returned to international motor racing with the MC12 in the FIA GT Championship, was one of the VIP drivers who were invited to race in the Trofeo Maserati in 2005. The organisation of the Trofeo Maserati Championship is truly superb, he said. You are looked after from the moment you arrive at the circuit, finding your car perfectly prepared and ready to go. I hope they will invite me again to race with Jodie next year!. |
| Supermodel on podium at Bologna Motorshow |
Jodie Kidd claimed second place in Bologna, Italy on Saturday, 3 December. The English Supermodel, together with FIA GT driver and Pirelli official tester Fabio Babini, stepped up to the second spot on the podium in the Trofeo Maserati race on board the Toora VIP car at the Bologna Motorshow.
Jodie and co-driver Fabio, who had been the fastest crew in the morning semifinals, finished second by a mere 0.7s, behind Trofeo driver Andrea De Megni and Paris-Dakar driver Alessandra Merluzzi. Third came Italian motorsport rising stars Matteo Gamba and Simona De Silvestro, who were awarded a drive in the Trofeo race in Bologna by Italian Motorsport Association CSAI for their sporting achievements. Autosprint journalists Dario Marchetti and Alexandra Gallo came home fourth.
Four special guests were supporting Jodie and Fabio at the Motorshow race: Paul and Jane Barry-Walsh, together with daughter Olivia and son Ed, were the winning bidders of BBC's Children in Need charity auction which took place earlier this year.
The prize, which was donated by Jodie Kidd, UK's leading private jet operators Club 328 and Maserati consisted of a return flight on a luxury private jet, accommodation, entry to the Bologna Motorshow and access to the Trofeo Maserati paddock area. |
| Audemars Piguet is main sponsor of the Trofero Maserati |
Audemars Piguet will be the new main sponsor of the Trofeo Maserati 2006. The series will take on the name Trofeo Audemars Piguet Maserati Europa.
Karl-Heinz Kalbfell and Georges-Henri Meylan, Chief Executives of, respectively, Maserati and Audemars Piguet, signed a new sponsorship and partnership contract today in Modena. The famous Swiss watchmakers will now go on working closely with the Trident company.
As part of the agreement, Audemars Piguet will also continue to be official supplier of Maserati cars that compete in GT categories.
The contract signed today renews and broadens the agreement between the two companies signed in February 2004. This saw Audemars Piguet become the sponsor of the Trofeo Maserati Europa and official supplier of the MC12s that made their competition debut in 2004. In 2005, the official Audemars Piguet logo appeared on the Trofeo cars and the official MC12 that raced in the North American ALMS championship. It is also displayed on the Vitaphone Racing Team MC12 that won the 2005 FIA GT team title.
In the first two years of their collaboration, Maserati and Audemars Piguet have given life to some exciting and successful projects. One of these was the Dual Time Millenary Maserati watch, a masterpiece created to celebrate 90 years since the founding of the motoring company based in Modena. Audemars Piguet and Maserati have also effectively cooperated to host many co-marketing events.
Confirming that the intention of both companies is to continue with joint marketing and communication activities, Georges-Henri Meylan stated that: Our partnership with Maserati mirrors the common drive for perfection inherent in creating exceptional watches and automobiles that are distinguished by their high technology and inimitable style.
Karl-Heinz Kalbfell declared: The renewal and broadening of the agreement with Audemars Piguet is a further confirmation of the convergence in interest between the two companies. Though we operate in different fields, we have both always stood for common values of heritage, excellence and innovation. |
| FIA GT-Race, Sakhir, Bahrain |
Michael Bartels and Timo Scheider have won the FIA GT championship in the GT1 class. The two Vitaphone Racing Team drivers came home fourth, the best placed finishers among the drivers going for the title.
Lamy/Gardel's number 11 Ferrari 550 Maranello was fourth across the line but was later excluded by the sporting commissioners. The decision was taken after technical checks revealed that three litres of fuel, required by the regulations, were missing from the tanks. The team Labre, who fielded car number 11, have lodged an appeal. The award of the GT1 Drivers title is pending this appeal.
Maserati has capped an extraordinary year. The Trident company has already secured the GT1 class Constructors' Cup at Istanbul and the team title (Vitaphone Racing Team) at Dubai. Five wins and twenty podium finishes in eleven races demonstrate the high standard of the Maserati MC12s.
The race was won by Christophe Bouchut and Antonio Garcia in a car fielded by Russian Age Racing. Next came Philipp Peter and Jamie Davies (MC12 JMB Racing). Davies also set the fastest lap of 1'56478 on lap 61.
Third spot was filled by Kumpen/Hezemans/Longin's Corvette.
Michael Bartels and Timo Scheider took fifth in the MC12, just behind Pedro Lamy and Gabriele Gardel who, with this result, claimed the title. Karl Wendlinger and Andrea Bertolini were unable to defend their overall lead after their bevel gear gave way on lap nine. The driver from Sassuolo was holding second at the time, behind Bouchut. It was the first retirement of the season for the pair.
Bad luck also hit the second Vitaphone Racing Team MC12. It was forced to pull out three laps from the end of the race. This time the transmission shaft on Fabio Babini's car failed when he was in third. The Vitaphone number 9 was still classified ninth (later eighth when Lamy/Gardel were excluded).
This race marks the end of the 2005 FIA championship, the highlight of which was the 24 Hours of Spa. Michael Bartels and Timo Scheider claimed the title with 75 points. Next came Andrea Bertolini and Karl Wendlinger on 71. In the team series, Vitaphone (Maserati) won with 139 points from JMB (Maserati), on 103. In the GT1 Constructors' Cup, Maserati truimphed (227) over Ferrari (116) and Corvette (54). |
| Maserati GB supports Johnny |
Maserati GB was proud to offer its support to Johnny Herbert's Karting Challenge to raise funds for Kidney Research UK and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
Johnny Herbert, who raced a Maserati MC12 in 2004, its debut year in the FIA GT Championship, has been organising the Challenge for 11 years running, inviting racing drivers, celebrities and friends to get together behind the wheel of 270cc go-karts. The race, which took place yesterday at the superb indoor go-kart venue The Raceway in North London, saw 22 teams and over 120 drivers competing in a three hour endurance challenge. Among them were: British F1 star Jenson Button, ex-Jordan F1 driver Ralph Firman, 2003 Le Mans winner Guy Smith, ALMS driver Johnny Mowlem, Alex and Chris Buncombe, Susie Stoddard, TV presenters Sarah Matravas and Gareth Jones and Holby City star Tina Hobley.
Pole position was claimed by go-kart Queen Helen Gardiner, who also won the Celebrity shoot-out, beating Johnny Herbert, Jenson Button and Rik Parfitt Jnr.
The race was full of hair raising moments, including a major engine blow-up courtesy of Le Mans hero Guy Smith, and endless overtaking. In the end Team Frome, captained by Jenson Button claimed the first step of the podium, followed by Ralph Firman's Team Carpaccio and Johnny Herbert's The two Johnny's.
Maserati GB's team, featuring Trofeo Maserati drivers Moz Fabris and Joe Macari, journalist Alistair Weaver, Maserati GB's own karting star Mark Langfield, Jodie Kidd's husband and internet guru Aidan Butler and last but not least British motor racing rising star James Littlejohn, went off to a difficult start, but managed to claim a respectable 11th place. A feverish Jodie Kidd was constantly updated over the phone and supported the Maserati GB team throughout the event. |
